Org Chart

A hierarchy drawn as connected cards that collapse and expand: an organization chart, a reporting line or a team structure.

c2-org-chart draws a hierarchy as cards joined by connector lines, after the org charts of Rippling, BambooHR and PrimeVue’s OrganizationChart. Each card shows an avatar, a label and a description, and a manager’s card carries a toggle on its connector that hides the people below it and shows how many there are. Hand it the hierarchy as items; collapsed-items lists the managers whose reports start hidden, and orientation="horizontal" draws reports beside their manager rather than below.

Usage

Every node is { id, label, description, image, children, disabled, data }. Without an image the avatar shows the label’s initials in a colour picked from the name; set --c2-org-chart__avatar--display: none for a chart of teams rather than people. The chart grows to its content, centred while it fits, and scrolls inside the host once it is wider or taller.

item-click fires for every card, which is where an app opens a profile or a side panel. With selectable, one card at a time can be selected: value holds its id and selection-change reports it. expansion-change fires when the user collapses or expands a card, with the new collapsedItems. reveal(id) expands the managers above a node and scrolls its card into view (the result of a people search), focusItem(id) also moves focus to it, and expandAll() and collapseAll() open and close the whole chart.

renderItem replaces the content of every card with a Lit template or a DOM node, handed the node, its parent, its level and whether it is expanded and selected; the card frame, its focus ring and the toggle stay.

The chart is an ARIA tree with a single Tab stop, and the arrow keys follow the drawing. Vertically, Arrow Down expands a collapsed card, then moves to its first report; Arrow Up collapses an expanded card, then moves to its manager; Arrow Left and Right move along the row, across managers. Horizontally the same keys turn a quarter. Home and End jump to the first and last card, and Enter or Space activates the focused one.
