Format Number

A number formatted for its locale: currency, percent, units, compact counts and byte sizes, from Intl.NumberFormat.

c2-format-number writes a number the way its reader expects it, with Intl.NumberFormat: grouping and decimals of the locale (“1,234.5” in English, “1 234,5” in French), and type for what it counts: currency (with currency, currency-display and currency-sign="accounting" for parentheses on losses), percent (0.25 reads “25%”), unit (any unit Intl knows, such as kilometer-per-hour or celsius) and bytes, scaled to the largest unit that fits (“1.5 MB”; binary steps by 1024). notation="compact" shortens large counts to “1.2K” or “1.2 thousand”, the digit attributes (minimum-fraction-digits, maximum-significant-digits…) and sign-display work as in Intl, and no-grouping drops the separators for years and IDs. locale picks the language, falling back to the nearest lang attribute and then the browser’s. The digits sit in a <data> element whose value is the raw number, and a shortened display carries the full figure as its hover title. The currency symbol, unit and compact suffix are the unit part, so --c2-format-number__unit--* can set them smaller or lighter than the digits, and --c2-format-number__negative--color / __positive--color colour losses and gains. Until value holds a number, the default slot shows instead, for a fallback such as ”—”.
